Privacy Policy

Effective date:

Truthly ("we", "us") is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that helps you compare prices while shopping. This policy explains what data the extension handles, how it is used, and who it is shared with. We aim to collect as little as possible.

1. What Truthly accesses and collects

a) Product page content - only when you run a scan.

Truthly reads content from the shopping page you are viewing only when you actively start a scan (by clicking the Truthly icon and running a scan, or the on-page Truthly button). At that point it reads details such as the product title, price, specifications, product identifiers, image URLs, and the page URL, and sends them to our backend to find comparable lower-priced listings. Truthly does notcontinuously monitor your browsing, and it runs only on the supported shopping sites listed in section 6.

b) Comparison processing.

The product details you scan are processed by our backend and an AI model to normalize the product and search supported stores for matching, lower-priced listings. Results are returned to your browser for display.

c) Information stored locally on your device.

Truthly stores the following in your browser's local extension storage: a randomly generated device identifier (not linked to your name or account) and a daily scan counter used to enforce usage limits. This data stays on your device.

d) Usage analytics.

If analytics is enabled in a published build, Truthly sends anonymous, aggregated usage events to Google Analytics (e.g., that a scan started, whether a match was found, the store platform, estimated savings figures, currency, and affiliate-link clicks). These events are tied only to the random device identifier described above. We do not send your page URLs, product titles, search terms, or any personally identifying information to analytics. On Firefox, analytics is an optional data-collection permission: you can decline it during installation, and the price-comparison feature continues to work normally.

e) Feedback you choose to submit.

If you submit a missed-deal link or report a mismatch, the URL and related context you provide are sent to our backend so we can improve match quality.

2. What Truthly does NOT do

  • We do not require an account, and we do not collect names, emails, or passwords.
  • We do not collect or process payment-card or banking information.
  • We do not read or transmit content from non-shopping sites or from other browser tabs.
  • We do not track your general browsing history.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

3. How we use information

  • To analyze the product you are viewing and find comparable lower-priced listings.
  • To display results and validated outbound (affiliate) links.
  • To enforce fair-use scan limits.
  • To understand aggregate feature usage and improve the product.

4. Third parties and data sharing

We share data only as needed to provide the service:

  • Backend hosting (Supabase): stores and processes scan requests that power comparisons.
  • AI processing (Google - Gemini API, via our backend): product details from a scan are processed to normalize and match products.
  • Google Analytics: receives the anonymous usage events described in section 1(d).
  • Affiliate networks (e.g., Amazon Associates, INRDeals): when you click an outbound buy link, standard affiliate-referral parameters are passed to the destination store so we may earn a commission. Your interaction on the destination site is governed by that site's own privacy policy.

We may disclose information if required by law.

5. Data retention

Locally stored data remains until you clear it or remove the extension. Scan and feedback data sent to our backend is retained only as long as needed to provide and improve the service. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

6. Permissions and the sites we run on

Truthly requests the narrowest permissions needed:

  • It runs and reads page content only on these supported shopping domains: Amazon.in, Amazon.com, Flipkart, Myntra, Meesho, and Ajio.
  • activeTab and storage permissions allow it to read the current product tab when you scan and to store the device identifier and scan counter locally.
  • Network access is limited to the supported stores, our backend, the affiliate redirector, and analytics.

7. Your choices

  • You can stop all data collection at any time by removing the extension.
  • You can clear locally stored data via your browser's extension settings.
  • On Firefox, you can decline the optional analytics data collection during installation; the price-comparison feature still works.
  • You can decline outbound affiliate links; comparisons work without clicking them.

8. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
