Truthly ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Truthly Chrome Extension ("the Extension"). Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.
Our core commitment: No Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is collected. We do not know who you are, and we do not want to.
1. Information We Collect
Anonymous Usage Identifier
We generate and store a randomly generated, anonymous UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) on your device when you first install the extension. We use this anonymous UUID strictly for daily rate-limiting purposes — to prevent abuse of our comparison API. This ID is not linked to your identity, email, name, or any other personal information, and cannot be used to identify you.
Product Data (On-Demand Only)
We do not track browsing history. Product data (URL and product title) is only securely scraped when the user actively clicks the extension icon on supported e-commerce sites. This data is used solely to search for price comparisons and is not stored on our servers after the request is fulfilled.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
- Your name, email address, or any contact information
- Browsing history, visited URLs, or page content outside of active scans
- Location data (IP addresses are not logged or stored)
- Payment or financial information of any kind
- Account credentials from any website
3. How We Use Information
The limited information we process is used exclusively to:
- Perform the price comparison you requested by clicking the extension icon
- Enforce fair-use rate limits using your anonymous UUID
- Improve the reliability and accuracy of our comparison results
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Price comparison requests may involve querying public product listings on supported e-commerce platforms. We may use affiliate links, which means clicking a result link may pass an affiliate tag to the retailer — no personal data is shared in this process.
5. Data Retention
Product scan requests are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers. The anonymous UUID is stored locally on your device (in Chrome extension storage) and is never sent to a third party.
6. Security
All communication between the Extension and our backend is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. We follow industry-standard security practices and regularly review our systems.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
